Seminars and Sessions

With the onset of every semester and as the time elapse the question which increases the tension amongst students is, “What after maths?”, if you know the answer to this then you may get struck by another question, “How to move forward and accomplish our goal?”, but that’s not all what the students face some people know everyting about their goals but couldn’t focus much, for the betterment of the students and to give them a clear idea about their future goals, plenty of seminars are being conducted by the department.

Fermat, Euler, and Secure Communication

The Department of Mathematics at Hansraj College, in collaboration with IQAC, organized a special lecture titled "Fermat, Euler, and Secure Communication." The lecture aimed to explore the profound contributions of mathematicians Fermat and Euler to the field of cryptography and their impact on modern secure communication protocols. Speaker: Dr. K. Srinivas, a distinguished Professor from The Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai, India, led the seminar. With expertise in Analytic Number Theory, Algebraic Number Theory, and Cryptography, Dr. Srinivas provided valuable insights into the mathematical principles underlying secure communication. Content: Dr. Srinivas elucidated the intricate concepts of cryptography, including encoding, decoding, and secure communication protocols. He leveraged examples to simplify complex ideas, making the subject accessible to all attendees. Through the lens of Fermat and Euler's work, he showcased the elegance of mathematics in ensuring data confidentiality and integrity in the digital era. Acknowledgment and Honor: Following the lecture, Dr. Rama (Principal), Dr. Raksha Verma (Mathematics Professor) and the fellow professors honored Dr. Srinivas for his enlightening discourse. The Vice President expressed gratitude to all participants for their contributions to the success of the session.

Pi-Logue

On March 14th, 2024, Pi: Department of Mathematics, Hansraj College commemorated International Pi Day with an event named Pi-Logue, celebrating the transcendental nature of pi and the wonders of mathematics. The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp ceremony, symbolizing enlightenment and knowledge. Speaker Session: Distinguished mathematician Prof. Geetha Venkataraman, from Ambedkar University, Delhi, delivered an enlightening session on the multifaceted world of mathematics, emphasizing its diverse applications, projects, and research avenues, particularly at the undergraduate level. Prof. Venkataraman, a specialist in Group Theory, expounded upon various mathematical appliances and ongoing projects at the undergraduate level, highlighting the significance of undergraduate research journals in fostering mathematical inquiry. Her illustrious academic journey, from earning a bachelor's degree from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, to receiving a doctoral degree from the University of Oxford, underscored her expertise and passion for the subject.
